0:27 audio syncing like a Bruce Lee movie
0:49 Joel building up the poor Golden retriever as he lets it climb all over him just to soon rid it of its new found hobby
    1:17 reinforcing 4 paws on the ground…
1:28 knee #1 OFF! Reinforcing feet where they belong directly after
1:35 knee #2 OFF! More reinforcement by ear molestation
2:00 Whispering sweet nothings into the dogs face, I doubt it can hear with its ear canals being rubbed into its brain
2:16 trying to proof trained behavior by being overly lovey and obnoxious to see if the Golden takes the bait
2:23 bad invite: how to keep your dog from jumping on overly obnoxious people or house guests
2:50 how to keep your dog safe from people in the wild
3:11 giving more attention to see if it receives a jump up
3:15 Joel proceeds to talk and explain things as he holds the dog down by its ears to keep it from jumping. (Very clever trick as he makes it look like he's rubbing them)
3:18 Joel continues to try and pull the dogs ears clean off its head in an effort to make this look like its working
3:22 timing is everything when kneeing your dog
3:30 Joel being even more like a "person in the wild" to see if he has a chance to knee the dog again
3:34 clear criteria for when kneeing your dog is justified
3:56 getting mad at Connery because he just wants some I love u's too!
4:30 invitation to jump history lesson
4:43 The Golden has finally had enough and looks for an opportunity to pee on the back of Joel's leg but loses his train of thought from the smell of Joel's butt
4:55 more taunting of the Golden by clapping in its face followed by more holding it down to make it look like hes sitting on his own
    5:15 percentage talk
    5:26 different types of jumping
6:40 you wanna see "badness" to fix it

I just came here to say you are absolutely full of sh*t. I've been trying all the "tips" and so-called "techniques" in your videos for a couple months now and they have had precisely zero, nadda, zilch, NO effect in correcting behavior. Biting? Yep. Still thinks that is the perfect game. Jumping? Yep. Won't stop no matter what. Recall? Not a frigging chance. I JUST chased her down for nearly an hour – AGAIN – trying to get her to come but she still thinks it is a game. The only thing that ALMOST works is a gentle leader harness for pulling on walks and all it does is stop her from pulling as much. Still won't get her to proper loose-leash walk.

I managed to fix my dog's jumping on me by pushing him away and tell him no, then make him sit and cuddle him while he's sitting. But it only works when we are alone. If my husband is home too he gets so excited to see us both together that he seems to forget all the training and keeps jumping on us both. Being 6 months pregnant I really can't have a big dog jump on me without control… Any idea how to fix this? He won't even listen to the sit command when my husband is in the room with us 🙁

Joe, how would you address this with a small breed? I can't "knee" him to stop it, but he won't stop jumping on people, especially everyone else except me. When others allow this behavior, he thinks it's okay to do it to me. I am disabled, and he has already knocked me down. I now understand that he isn't the problem, but the others who won't enforce anything and don't take the time to train him as I have. Please help. I promise I have not seen one video with a dog this small (we have had him since he was nine weeks old, and he'll be two next month) still behaving as if he were nine weeks old-, it is so bad I dare say you haven't met this type of challenge. No matter how much he is walked or played with, he wants attention 24/7. He literally does not sleep because he has to see and be with you for every move. This is no exaggeration! He is a dog who does not sleep, and it drives me wild as I suffer from insomnia. It is very annoying to barely move your hand to reach for the remote, and he literally jumps for attention. Again, please help. I am willing to pay if only for one session.

I tried kicking my mastiff off when he jumps on me and I find that it just makes him more excited. He loves the battle. So instead I do your other method where I grab his collar and force him to sit and calm down. And that has worked. I make sure I always “win the battle”.

Hi Joel, can you do a video on slip leads? My trainer recommends them for walking my reactive dog, but I'm not sure I'm using it correctly when applying pressure or issuing a correction for unwanted behavior. My Husky simply ignores the pressure and does whatever she wants anyway. Any tips?

Hello, thanks for the video. A little off this topic but I have a 2 y/o dog (mini Goldendoodle) that I want to train to go in the garage on a puppy pad. I know it’s probably against what you preach but try to look past that for me 😉. We did this successfully with our previous pup but this one isn’t getting it.

We keep him in a crate at night and when we can’t watch him but he still hasn’t connected the idea that he needs to let us know he has to go.

He will hit a belle when we tell him to go to the garage (7 out of 10x’s) but it’s not consistent enough. He gets little cheese “treats” when he goes but how do we have him alert us when he needs to go? Thank you. 🐶

Can you do a video on unneutered males meeting in public. I'm never sure whether I should dominate my dog (shout clap hands) so he knows I disapprove and I decide who he should challenge, or walk away and withdraw my support. I do the latter at the moment. The "boy" have a few words with each other then "diplomatically" walk away from each other to save face without actually engaging. Can be a real peoblem when this happens outside a cafe.

I've tried this with my dog. He now knows when I get home, he has to sit. He'll even lay down and present his belly, but then the second I stop petting him to walk into the room, he'll run around me and jump at my back.

i kinda need help with correcting some behavior and i cant find anything on youtube that would work. i now have two dogs: a husky that lived with us since birth and isnt trained for the most part(knows commands but is very easily distractable and ive battled it for years) and a new german shepherd(i guess) that came to us on the street, extremely malnourished and on a verge of death. we want to take her in but our husky keeps circling around (she`s too active) and trying to play, the shepherd growls at it thinking it`s a threat and they start to fight. they are absolutely ok walking together, i walk with them both with no reactivity at all but the moment they stop for a long time the fighting starts bc the husky has too much energy and crosses shepherd`s boundaries and is too active towards her. what can i do? i cant drain husky out of energy at all, i tried every concentration training but she is distracted and also cant be chill when im not around… is there any way to make it work? the shepherd is SUPER chill but fights back when threatened with great force even tho she`s so thin that her spine and pelvic bones stick out. please help….

Would someone be able to advise me here? My dog only jumps on me when he sees me getting the leash before we go for a walk. I have eliminated all other jumping using this Joel's method, but how can I reinforce four paws on the ground when my dog wants the walk and not the petting at that particular moment? If my dog doesn't want it, then it's no reinforcement. I do wait for the dog to calm down before we leave (again, following Joel's methods) but the problem is that my dog keeps jumping on me until he settles down. It's gotten to the point where knee bumps are not effective as a correction anymore because my dog has gotten good at blocking it with his legs, so I have to resort to Joel's patented firm grab on the collar to have my dog settle down, but again, this way of dealing with the dog is more correction-oriented rather than reinforcement.

    Any ideas?

Lovely Golden Retriever in this video!……I’ve had four Goldens and I believe it’s in their nature to jump as a friendly greeting. This can obviously be a real problem if they jump up a young child or older person. Two of my dogs I had as puppies and were easy to train not to jump from an early age with a basic & sharp “DOWN”…the key is TIMING, by pre-emptying before they jump.
My other two were re-homed by me (8 & 12 month old dogs) and had previously been allowed to jump up people; they were more difficult but I found the same technique worked for me….the key being TIMING.
Dave, my current Golden was a “lockdown dog” has been somewhat challenging in other aspects as until I got him at 8 months old he’d never been walked on a lead, was never socialised with other dogs and consequently was very reactive. By largely using Joel’s methods/techniques together with my own experience Dave, now 3years, is very good…not perfect….but is any dog? THANKS JOEL, LOVE YOUR ‘STRAIGHTFORWARD APPROACH’

I really struggle with this with my pitbull/bandogge mastiff mix. He's just under 2 years old and weighs around 120lbs. He's friendly and loves everyone, but he also likes to jump on people when he's too happy and excited. He's also extremely strong willed and seemingly doesn't feel any pain no matter how strongly I knee him. I really don't know how to get him to stop.

I just seen my families dogs and one of them loved jumping on me (and because she is small I didn’t mind it) nor thought twice of it being bad but if it was a big dog I’d be like no. Now it makes since that I think about it why they were telling her no here and there. Maybe they were already training her to stop doing that and I probably messed up the training . So cute though lol she kept rolling on her back so I could rub her belly.
