Every dog should know the word NO. Don't be rediculous.

Zak, you probably know that some in your community do not agree with your techniques. You all have your own way to train dogs and may or may not work for your dog. But I dont see why they say this about you. Keep up the good work.

Are you feeding Raw? Like the freeze dried toppers? I use instinct for my pup and he loves it! Especially the freeze dried pieces.

I’ve been watching several of you YouTube’s and have loved your approach. This is the first video that has confused me. I can see where distraction is useful in certain situations. But it seems to me that the dog should be able to learn that it should never jump on someone without permission and to always stay off the counter. Do you have a video that teaches this?

This is the worse cane Corso owner ever. Has no idea what he is actually doing. Wrong things to do with that breed. Instead of preventing this guy just lets a Corso really do his thing. By the way this dog is not months old. He is lying and this dog is over a year. I wonder why he doesn’t show the real time like Tom Davis’ Boeboel

these are not solutions to the problems. These are ways to stop the dogs from doing what you don't want them to do once they already started. But you can't teach them to never start doing these things you don't want them to do to begin with through positive training. Otherwise this is what the video would be about.

Use two words or sounds. I use NO! For dangerous or destructive behavior and that comes with a punishment, positive or negative. I use uh uh for you did it wrong try again. That comes with a positive reinforcement after the dog successfully performs the command. (In Zak's case request ). There are dogs in shelters whose owners followed Zak's training advice guaranteed.

If you’re not careful either—and use this technique of redirection every time—your dog may learn that jumping up on the counter and barking equals being called away which then equals a reward. All you’re doing is chaining behaviors, not actually resolving what you don’t want. You CAN use techniques that are actually preventative, such as seeing a trigger and rewarding when they stay neutral, but all this video’s approach is doing is teaching the dog to do something bad to get something good. You’ll never really eliminate the behavior and will have to be doing this their entire life because it WILL be easier to call them away, but the bad will persist.

How is no “not very specific” when it is a marker just as yes and release markers are? It captures a moment in time so that your dog much more clearly understands exactly what you don’t want so that you can show what you do want.

I also trained my Labrador using positive reinforcement to follow my finger. It created a virtual bungee chord, and the strong bond meant it was her top priority – if I caught her doing something undesirable I would wave my finger pointing downwards and say ‘ah ah’ and then direct her though my legs round each leg and then roll over, and then had a game of tug. She totally forgot about what she was doing before. I never had to say no. She loved the alternative activity. She tried doing that naughty behaviour again a week later, all I needed then was a quick flick of my finger and she ran away from the naughty food grab. Then, a week later she saw the food, looked at it then picked up a tug toy to mess around with by herself. Dogs are smarter than a lot of aversive trainers give them credit for, just read them properly, communicate properly and motivate them properly. Dont just switch them off. Zak shows a lot of healthy communication with the dogs to make them want to do what he would like them to. It does work, but you have to persevere and emotionally bond with the dog

My Labrador used to chew everything. Then I put her dinner in a kong instead of a bowl. The chewing stopped. She used to jump on me, I folded my arms and looked upwards. It stopped in days. Never happened again. Body language and alternative activities are fantastic tools. Talking to your dog calmly is the icing on the cake.

I have a honest question…how does the dog learns that its NOT okey to chew on shoes just because he interrupted the action? If the shoes are back on the ground, he will chew on them again until you interrumpt them. And sure, you can move the shoes out of reach but what is one supposed to do if the dog choose to chew on furniture? Will you always have to interrumpt? Again, just a honest question

I have a GS had her since birth and she is so skittish. She is scared of everything and everyone. Inside she will run and hide, usually behind me. Outside, she will bark and go crazy almost in an aggressive manor, until she can’t see the person any longer. However, if the person was to try and approach her she will take off running while barking. I was told this is a form of anxiety and I honestly have no clue why she is like this. We have her mother and she is nothing like that. How do I fix this or help her? She is 2 years old.

Yea he's still gonna go back to scatching the door and trying to get the dog to get food off the counter. There are the commands you can do besides no and it works after one time with my dog. A consistent voice command works well. Calling him just takes away his attention as you have other food. You are just teaching him to come NOT stop trying to get the bad behavior to stop.

I love most of what Zak puts out, but this was nonsense. Dogs need to know the word "no" and everything I saw in this video didn't teach that puppy to "not do" the things Zak didn't want him to do, it taught him that if he does those things he will get Zak's attention and get a reward for doing them. Sorry folks, positive training is good for many things, but not everything. Just like your kids, they need to learn the word no and they need to learn the punishment that comes if they ignore you. If you raise your kids, or your pets, that there is no punishment in life then they will walk all over you…..your dogs will do the same thing eventually.
