A golf outing typically focuses on the sport, where participants are surrounded by beautiful scenery and hushed voices. Friends and co-workers often go golfing to network and hang out. It’s a relaxing and fun pastime that many enjoy. But for a group of golfers in Garland, Texas, their peaceful day took an unexpected turn when they found themselves at the center of a dramatic rescue mission to save a lost dog’s life. The incident unfolded at Garland’s Fire Wheel Golf Course when visitors spotted a stranded dog at the edge of Rowlett Creek.

The poor pup was trapped, surrounded by water and a steep rock wall, with no clear way to escape. Immediately concerned for the dog’s safety, these kind folks called Garland Animal Services (GAS). Responding swiftly, the GAS team arrived on the scene alongside the Garland Fire Department (GFD).

“Rescue 8 was called out to help Animal Control reach a dog [who] appeared to be stranded on the bank of the creek at Fire Wheel Golf Course,” the GFD shared on Facebook, posting a video of the heartwarming rescue operation.

A firefighter bravely waded across the creek, gently trying to coax the frightened dog into the water. When the dog refused to move, the firefighter carefully scooped him up in his arms and carried him back to safety on the shore. Fortunately, the dog was wearing a collar with his owner’s contact information, which led rescuers to his relieved mom, Joan Landry.

“This is my dog, Bubba,” Landry commented on Facebook. “We’ve been looking for him for over two days!”

As the GFD and GAS teams worked to save Bubba, an entire community was actively searching for him. Six miles away in Sachse, a town not far from the golf course, neighbors had been keeping an eye out for the beloved dog.

“I was crying for two days, walking the neighborhood, and my neighbors were watching for him, too!” Landry shared on Facebook. Bubba’s family had been searching frantically since he escaped through an open gate at their home days earlier. When Landry finally received the call from GAS about Bubba’s location, she was completely taken aback.

“[It’s] totally amazing. I’m shocked,” Landry said in a YouTube interview with WFAA, her local news station. “Just the idea that he was in the creek is still puzzling. Did he just jump in and go for a swim because it was a hot day?” She couldn’t understand how her pup, fearful of water, had ended up there. Regardless, she was thrilled to be reunited with him. At the animal shelter, Bubba was just as ecstatic to see her.

Now, a month after his rescue, Bubba is back to his normal routine with his loving family. While his adventures remain a mystery, one thing is certain: he’s incredibly happy to be home again.

The man responsible is facing felony charges but must never be allowed to own or care for animals again.

“He’s so happy to be home!!” Landry wrote on Facebook, grateful to have her furry friend safe and sound. Check out Bubba and his mom’s heartwarming reunion in the video below. Thank you to the Garland Fire Department for saving Bubba’s life!
